Healing on your terms and your timeline.

Online EMDR Intensives, serving adults throughout WA

You don’t have to be in therapy forever to find the healing you deserve.

An EMDR Intensive might be right for you if:

You want to start working on the things from your past that you know still affect you, and you are ready to do it. But trying to carve out an hour every week in your busy schedule feels like an impossible commitment that creates more stress than it relieves.

Or,

You already have a kick-ass therapist. You’ve already done some great work together and you don’t want to lose that connection. But you know that you are not quite getting to the root of the challenges you’re facing, or you’re struggling to really implement the insights and connections you’ve made. You want to continue working with your current therapist but also supplement this work with a brief commitment to very focused work in order to break through the barrier.

Or,

You are not in crisis, but you are still really struggling and need to find some relief sooner than later. You are willing to do therapy for an hour every week, but worry that it will be many months before you start to experience meaningful changes and your life feels like it might unravel by then. You’re ready to do whatever it takes to feel even a little bit better before then.

What if you could get 6 weeks worth of therapy in one day?

An EMDR Intensive involves spending a full day (or short series of full days) working together, giving you more flexibility with your time and more efficient care.

So how does it work??

Before an Intensive, we’ll schedule a 60-90 minute Pre-Intensive Interview, during which we’ll talk about your needs and goals, your support, your history and what you’ve already tried. This information will help me to customize your Intensive experience and help to ensure that it is clinically safe for us to move forward. You will also have a chance to ask any questions about the process or what to expect at this time.

After this session, if we both decide to proceed, I’ll send you a customized workbook full of evaluation and assessment materials, as well as many of the tools and resources we’ll work on together. You will be able to use this workbook on your own as well as throughout our work together, and it will be yours to keep once we’re done.

During our EMDR Intensive, we’ll first focus on assessment and evaluation, collaborative and customized treatment planning, and grounding and stabilization skills. If time allows, we’ll then move on to resolving past memories.  For a more detailed description of EMDR therapy, click here

Then, usually 1-2 weeks after a full-day Intensive, we’ll schedule a 60-90 minute Post-Intensive check-in session. This is a time for us to review your progress and how you’ve been able to integrate tools and insights from the Intensive into your life. It is also a time for us to explore and discuss any challenges that you may have encountered, or identify additional resources that might be helpful.

An EMDR Intensive can give you…

  • Access to trauma therapy without an ongoing weekly commitment

  • More immediate relief from some of your most troubling symptoms

  • The tools and information to better understand your experiences and the areas in your life that need the most support

  • The ability to integrate the insights and knowledge you may already have, but have struggled to know what to do with

It’s time to invest in yourself.

Frequently asked questions about EMDR Intensives

FAQs

  • Yes! EMDR Intensives work well as an adjunct to your existing therapy.

  • Though we’ll be working towards your treatment goals the entire time together, we won’t be processing past memories non-stop. We’ll spend a significant amount of time upfront doing evaluation and assessment, and building grounding and stabilization tools, which we’ll come back to throughout the day. Additionally, we’ll use various other tools throughout the day to check-in on your progress and use different parts of your brain to minimize mental/emotional exhaustion. We’ll also take short breaks at least every 60-90 minutes, and you will always have the option of taking additional breaks as needed.

  • You’ll be asked to refrain from the use of alcohol, marijuana or illegal substances for 2 days prior to the Intensive and to ensure you are not under the influence of any substances during the Intensive. This is to reduce any negative effects these substances may have on memory processing and cognitive functioning, which can negatively impact treatment outcomes. If you believe refraining from any substance will be dangerous for you, please discuss this with me prior to the Intensive.

Otherwise, preparation involves trying to be as rested as possible, clearing your schedule, and finding a private and comfortable place to attend your Intensive so that this time can be free of interruptions or distractions.

  • Immediately after an Intensive, most clients report feeling tired. It’s recommended that you try to clear your evenings following an Intensive so that you can rest and relax during this time. Some clients find it helpful to do some journaling about their Intensive experiences and any new insights or ah-ha moments while they are still fresh in mind. Some clients also find it helpful to do some type of movement after an Intensive, whether going for a walk, doing some gentle stretching or yoga, or another favorite low-impact activity. All of these can be great tools to further integrate the work you’ll do during the Intensive.
